New Livable Streets Group: Ballona Creek Bike Path

Since Streetsblog first broke the news that another cyclist was assaulted on the Ballona Creek Bike Path last month, people have been asking what we can do to make the trail a more safe place.  While I have some ideas, as someone who has never actually taken a ride along the trail I would be an odd choice to tell interested users what "they should be doing."  But do you know who would be a better choice?  Streetsblog readers.

To that end, I’ve started a discussion group in the "Livable Streets Network" for Ballona Creek Trail Safety Issues.  Right now, the group is just me.  But, having talked with some of you I know that the group will grow quickly in the near future.  By joining the group, you’ll be part of a private listserve on trail discussion issues and will be able to communicate with other trail users instantaneously.  I hope we’ll be able to come up with a list of goals and organize an action plan together.

To join, you need to be a member of the Livable Streets Network.  To do that, go to the Livable Streets Network Homepage and create an account.  Once that is done, click on the groups link at the top of this page and search for "Ballona."  From there just join the group and start talking.  I started the first topic, wondering whether we should organize a "Take Back the Trail" ride or not, but the number of discussion topics is limited only by your participation and imagination.

If you want to start a Livable Streets Group for another project, please do so.  You can set the group to have open membership or invite only and when it comes to "taking back LA’s streets one block at a time" we need all the help we can get.
