“Yes on Measure R” Breaks Its Silence

With less than 3 weeks until election day, the official "Yes on Measure R Campaign" has dramatically increased its visibility in the last couple of days.  First, the "Yes on Measure R" website opened its online doors.  Second, the television campaign kicked off last night.

The commercial will probably be found less than inspiring by Streetsbloggers; the focus is almost completely on highway improvements and reducing automobile congestion.  Do you like scenes with lots of cars on freeways?  Then this is the add for you.

However, we’re not their target audience and there was some talk of transit improvements including a light rail extenstion to LAX.

For those of you without a video player or at work, here’s the text of the ad:

1956.

Dwight Eisenhower was president with a plan to build roads, bridges and freeways.  Since than our population has more than doubled, but our transportation systems haven’t kept up.

Measure R is a countywide plan.  The most comprehensive since the fifties.  Imagine expanded mass transit and modernized freeways.  Think about light rail to the airport and synchronizing traffic signals.  From big projects to fixing potholes.  Yes on Measure R, the Roadmap for Traffic Relief.
