En Español, Por Favor? Help Streetsblog Subtitle All Our Los Angeles Streetfilms

Last week, Streetfilms announced the addition of a new crowd sourcing application that allows anyone to subtitle a Streetfilm.  Once subtitled, the film will be available on Streetfilms with the subtitles.  If you want to see how it works, Chris Abraham wrote a helpful introduction post  at Streetfilms.

In other words, with some help from all of you, we could soon begin offering our Streetfilms with Spanish, or any other, language subtitles.  When I spoke with Clarence Eckerson, the director of Streetfilms, he agreed with my feelings that “This could open up Streetfilms to many, many people that haven’t been able to experience them before.”

This is where you come in.  I don’t speak Spanish, or any language outside of English.  Some readers would argue that I can barely type in English.  My plea to any reader who can speak Spanish and could spare us some time, please drop me an email so we can make sure that we don’t have two people working on the same film.  We can’t offer translators cash, at least at this moment in time, but we’d be happy to provide you with your pick of Streetsblog (and Streefilms!) schwag, free passes to our fundraisers and, if you’re a student, I’d be happy to work with your professors to get you class credit for your time.

Most importantly, you’d be helping thousands of Angelenos access our films for the first time.  Everytime a film is translated, we’ll announce it with a post on Streetsblog and promote through social media and to Spanish language media.
