Government Fleet Magazine has named Culver City the 3rd Best Government Fleet in North America for 2012 as part of its annual ranking of 100 best fleets.

Culver City’s fleet includes refuse and public works trucks, standard autos, fire and transit buses, all of which conserve over 800,000 gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel per year, saving taxpayers more than $1.5 million dollars annually by using natural gases instead of

“This achievement is awarded to public city fleet organizations in recognition of their outstanding contributions and leadership, particularly in the advancement of accountability, efficiencies and advanced technologies. Award winning fleets have established and maintained high standards of operation, while demonstrating consistent sustainability practices throughout their operations” notes the press release on the city website announcing the honor.

Other local entities to make the list of 100 best include the cities of Beverly Hills, Glendale, Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Oceanside, Riverside, San Clemente, Santa Ana and Thousand Oaks plus the Orange County Sanitation District and the counties of Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego.
