As part of our DTLA Bike Share Equity project, we spoke with Areli, a community member and avid cyclist, who tried out Metro’s Downtown Los Angeles bike share system for several weeks. She shares her first impressions and describes the potential benefits of using bike share in Downtown.

MCM, Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC), Metro and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) are engaged in a yearlong community-based research project to identify the equity and accessibility issues of the new bike share system. So far, MCM has found that while bike share holds promise for increased mobility, it is still inaccessible to many community members. Our vision for bike share involves working collaboratively with our partners to reduce these barriers.

Metro Bike Share will be expanding to Pasadena, Venice, San Pedro and Wilmington this year.  Culver City has been studying possibilities for westside expansion, too.
