Meetings, rides, and much more this week.

  • Tuesday 5/9 – UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs hosts “Gente Si, Gentrify No: Resisting Displacement in Boyle Heights” a panel discussion. The event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at PAB room 2355, 2nd Floor, at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, 337 Charles E. Young Drive East at UCLA. Free, but RSVPs requested via Eventbrite.
  • Wednesday 5/10 – The L.A. City Council Transportation Committee will meet to discuss several items, including speed limits, catering trucks, L.A. River bike path, and more. The meeting will take place at 1 p.m. at room 1010, at L.A. City Hall at 200 N. Spring Street (public entrance on Main Street) in downtown L.A. Details at meeting agenda.
  • Friday – LA-Más and Parents,Educators/Teachers & Students in Action will host “X-ing On Adams” a Vision Zero community event featuring music, snacks and a conversation about the future of the West Adams corridor. “X-ing on Adams” is a week-long activation of West Adams Blvd between Fairfax Ave and La Brea Ave, aimed at increasing awareness about traffic safety. The project includes: physical design interventions at the locations of past traffic collisions; community surveys; educational programming with local students; and a celebration event. The X-ing event will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fais Do Do at 5257 W. Adams Boulevard in South Los Angeles. Details at Facebook event.
  • Saturday 5/13 – Cyclofemme, C.I.C.L.E. and Bikie Girl Bloomers will host a short, family friendly, slow paced eight-mile bike ride with stops along the way. Riders (especially male participants) are encouraged to ride in a skirt. The ride meets at 10 a.m. at Los Angeles State Historic Park at 1245 N. Spring Street in Chinatown. Details at Facebook event.

  • Saturday 5/13 – The city of Rancho Cucamonga and SCAG Go Human host Open Streets RC from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Town Center Drive and West Elm Street. Details at Facebook event.
  • Saturday 5/13 – CiclaPoly hosts a free 2-mile bike ride around the Cal Poly Pomona campus. Meet at 2 p.m. at Parking Lot B. Details at Facebook event.
