This week gets off to a slow start, but what do you expect when there’s a holiday on Tuesday. Starting Wednesday, things really start to pick up.

• Wednesday – Mayor Eric Garcetti will join ULI Los Angeles, a District Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), for Transit Oriented LA – ToLA – an interactive event unveiling dramatic changes in transportation. At last year’s ToLA, Mayor Garcetti unveiled his Great Streets initiative to revitalize transportation corridors. This year, he will reveal progress throughout Los Angeles. • Wednesday – The Los Angeles City Council Transportation Committee meets at 2 p.m. in City Hall to hear from Seleta Reynolds, discuss moving forward on car sharing and discuss changes the city needs to make to comply with changes in environmental law. • Wednesday – Multicultural Communities for Mobility (MCM) hosts its 5th Annual Awards Dinner, at Hecho En Mexico in El Sereno. Honorees include the Ovarian Psycos and others! Festivities start at 6pm. Details at Facebook event. Buy your advance ticket at MCM.
• Wednesday, Thursday – Hey Man! Maybe if we like make a weird, psychedelic cover for our environmental study, nobody will notice we’re proposing to add 120 miles of highway to the middle of the desert. • Thursday – At 9 a.m., the Metro Board of Directors will meet to discuss, among other things, the proposal to develop Mariachi Plaza (including a 6-story parking structure.) Here’s a bold prediction, the crowd is going to get restless if the good-byes to Gloria Molina and Zev Yaroslavsky, two termed-out Supervisors, go on for too long. Read the agenda, here.
• Thursday – At 6:30 p.m. at KAOS Network in Leimert Park, Los Angeles Walks hosts an open meeting. Come discuss Vision Zero, sidewalk repair, Glendale-Hyperion Bridge and lots more. Details at Facebook event.
• Saturday – Explore one of Los Angeles’ most fascinating neighborhoods: Koreatown. Also known as Wilshire Center or Ktown, this neighborhood stands at the intersection of Los Angeles’ past and its possible future. Along this walk, lead by Walk Ambassador David Barboza, a former Ktown resident who works as a city planner for the City of Lakewood, we’ll learn about the historic buildings, subway service, stunning cultural diversity, and generate lots of food for thought about what makes a place good or bad to walk. Read more, here.
• Sunday – 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Following up on their discussion on gentrification and bike lanes in Boyle Heights two weeks ago, the promotor@s from Multicultural Communities for Mobility (MCM) will be leading a Bici Paseo in Boyle Heights. The group will ride Soto and Boyle — the two streets slated to get lanes — and assess the existing infrastructure, pitfalls, and areas of promise. More details here.
