The Week in Livable Streets Events

0000_sblog_calendar.gifRight before the holiday break, it seems the number of events for activists wane as the number of events celebrating the season increase.  This week’s calendar features only one government meeting of note, the Annual Holiday of Rights, and a chance to do something about bike parking in Pico-Union (along with the parties…)

Tuesday – The City Council’s Planning and Land Use Committee meets at 1:30 in the Downtown City Hall.  On the agenda is Councilman Bill Rosendahl’s proposal to revamp and reform the city’s bicycle parking requirement for new development.  The agenda item might not have gotten a lot of attention at last week’s rushed Committee Hearing, but promises to get more time tomorrow.  For a full agenda, click here.

Friday – The Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition celebrates the first year of their "Car-Free Fridays" series.  For breakfast and a bike ride meet at 8:30 A.M. at the corner of Glendale and Park in Echo Park.

Friday – Every year cyclists celebrate their right to bicycle on the street by biking in the face of an LADWP ban during the Holiday of Lights.  The "Festival of Rights" meets at Mulholland Fountain at the SW corner of Los Feliz
Boulevard and Crystal Springs/Riverside Drive at 6:30 pm.

Saturday – The LACBC hosts their holiday ride for the whole family in the Larchmont Village.  Come ride the ride, and if you’re a good little cyclist, you might even get a visit from Santa Claus.

Sunday – The City of Lights program is looking for volunteers to help scope out the best places to add some bike parking in the Pico-Union area.  Meet at 7th and Alvarado at 10:30 or email Allison Mannos for more details.  allison@la-bike.org
