Livable Places is hosting a Community Workshop tomorrow, March 29, to give Angelenos living in and around Chinatown an update on the "Making Connections" project. Livable Places describes Making Connections as:

…an urban planning and design project that will result in a plan with proposed bicycle and pedestrian connections to the Chinatown and Lincoln/Cypress Gold Line Stations. The goal is to connect the residents and workers that surround the stations to the Gold Line. The plan will create safe and enjoyable routes to walk and bike to the Gold Line; create more opportunities to exercise; and make our streets more enjoyable places for people.

The workshop begins at 8:45 A.M. at the LA Conservation Corps offices, 1400 N. Spring Street in Los Angeles. This is not the first time Livable Places has met with the community, in 2007 they sponsored two walkabouts and one bikeabout to garner feedback. Based on the results of these events, Livable Places selected six key areas in Chinatown that need to be more walkable and bikeable for the community to grow properly.

Making Connections has a better chance of resulting in concrete changes to the streets of Chinatown than your average community plan. Metro sits on the projects advisory board and the project is funded by CALTRANS.
