SlateV Continues Search for America’s Stupidest Bike Lane

The world got a little more sad for cyclists in Los Angeles.

Just last month we celebrated being home to the country’s stupidest bike lane, as declared by SlateV. This week, Slate has stripped us of that honor and bestowed it on a couple of feet of asphalt in Silver Springs, MD. Sad times indeed.

Never fret Angelenos; I call shenanigans. I don’t think the bike lane in Silver Spring was ever intended to be a bike lane, but rather intended as a road marking to let cyclists know that it was ok for them to go the wrong way down this one-way street. That’s why the marking was removed.

Yes, instructing cyclists to pedal the wrong day down a one-way street is a stupid idea in its own right, but this is not a contest for the stupidest bike route in America, but the stupidest bike lane. I hereby disqualify the entry from Silver Spring and restore the bike lane in Westwood as the stupidest bike lane in America.

Los Angeles may have recently suffered the loss of no longer being the nation’s sootiest city, but as far as I’m concerned we’re still home to America’s stupidest bike lane.
