The exhibitors, which include: P-A-T-T-E-R-N-S; Lehrer Architects; artist Fritz Haeg; Rio Clemente Hale Studios; KCRW radio host Frances Anderton; City Council President Eric Garcetti; and Common Current founder Warren Karlenzig; are part of an invited list of global and local twenty collagers, seven photographers, and nine narrators.  These contributors represent the brightest voices from architecture, planning, artists, writers, policy-makers, and graphic designers whose approaches range from the avant-garde to the more mainstream.

The exhibit includes 20 photographs of present day Los Angeles juxtaposed with 20 collages of a future LA.  Sites around the city were selected based on criteria of showcasing: icons, infrastructure, boulevards, freeways, urban and suburban fabric; these include: the LA River, 105 / 110 Freeway Interchange, Dodger Stadium, and Wilshire Boulevard.

Through mandate, statistics, and the written-word, both in different ways policy and story affect the world of design around us.  A series of five short films, and four expert audio narrations will cover a wide range of issue: localized neighborhoods, sprawl, traffic, economics, sustainability, and transportation.

As part of the Stephen F. Kanner Educational Center, the exhibition will feature a series of thought-provoking and interactive installations, including:

– ‘Wilshire on Wilshire’ – an interactive model made of found objects representing Wilshire Boulevard by James Rojas

– ‘Daily Life’ – an interactive wall highlighting lifestyle questions, inspired by City Council President Eric Garcetti

– ‘Rethinking a Los Angeles Street’ – A chalkboard drawing wall of a typical Los Angeles Street.

Join A+D Museum and the Rethink LA team to celebrate and peek into LA’s future on Opening Night.  Enjoy an open bar, a guest food truck, and a live DJ set with the brightest civic minds and creative thinkers of Los Angeles in attendance.

We suspect Los Angeles might have a car-crazed reputation but we also know this city has a vibrant community that likes to take bikes, buses and sidewalks, too. Rethink LA is teaming up with GOOD, deLab, Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, Architects Newspaper, New Belgium Brewery, the DJ’s from Dublab, Green Aid, photographer Tommy B, APA-LA, and the A+D Museum, for an event that shows how L.A. can move beyond cars. And we’re challenging everyone who attends to use alternative transportation.

That’s right— our goal is to make this a completely car-free party.

Rethink LA is a collaboration of creative individuals who are intent on re-inventing Los Angeles; through partnerships with select non-profits and impassioned organizations we believe that together we will create a singular, stronger, unified voice for the future.
