Active Streets L.A. Launch

Active Streets L.A. is a partnership between the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, TRUST South L.A., and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, with funding through the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health intended to engage and empower residents in the process of making their local neighborhood streets ideal for walking and biking.

“Active Streets LA is the next chapter of the City’s Bicycle Plan,” said LADOT Bicycle Coordinator Nate Baird. “The neighborhood network will connect peoples’ homes to over 150 miles of new bikeways we’ve striped in the past two years.”

To help people make the most of those connections, this Saturday, they invite community members to come learn how traffic calming elements can be combined to create a network of safe routes for walking and biking to schools, parks, businesses, and other local destinations. Residents will document unsafe conditions with a mobile phone-based mapping platform, and then walk and bike alongside engineers from LADOT to explore possible solutions.

Join them for a guided walk and bike ride, family-friendly activities, FREE lunch, and a raffle for a bike, Mama’s Chicken gift cards, grocery store gift cards, and more!
