“Best of Streetfilms”:Reinventing Transportation Planning

Recently, Streetsblog Editor-in-Chief Aaron Naperstek sat down to chat with Gary Toth the Senior Director of Transportation Initiatives with the Project for Public Spaces.  I knew Mr. Toth very well when he was a director with the New Jersey Department of Transportation and I was the New Jersey Coordinator for the Tri-State Transportation Campaign.  While at NJDOT we actually worked together to promote New Jersey’s much heralded Future in Transportation program, aka NJFIT, which married land use and transportation and worked with community planners to reduce traffic congestion through better planning.

More recently, Mr. Toth has written, "A Citizen’s Guide to Better Streets," which is
designed to help the everyperson and advocacy community better
understand the behind-the-scenes processes that occur when dealing with
transportation departments and how to better prepare and speak their
language. He shares some of his views and advice with Aaron in this
very important interview.
