The L.A. Streetsblog Earth Week Challenge

For the most part, the people that read Streetsblog are either car-free or something close to it.  Those that are car-free can skip this one, but for those of you that, like me, still own a private automobile, here’s the challenge.  Sometime during Earth Week, skip the car for one activity that usually involves a car trip.  If you think you’ve come up with a creative way to skip the car, please let us know in the comments section.

For me, the extra car-reduction came last weekend.  On Saturday was my Church’s bi-annual electronics recycling day.  Instead of moving the waste that we collect via car, I recruited the Greensters to help us out.  Sure enough, Enci Box, Jeremy Grant, David Bell, Jennifer Moran and others joined a handful of church members and Bikerowave volunteers in moving well over 100 pounds of electronics and waste four miles to a recycling center at UCLA.  And before anyone asks, Enci was leading the group so of course we rode the Backbone Bikeway Network to get there.

Think you have a story better than that?  Let me know in the comments section.  For more images from Saturday, check out LA Streetsblog on Flickr or the L.A. Greensters on Facebook.
