The Week in Livable Streets Events

Last Week – Somehow, I missed the opening of Gil Garcetti, that would be Eric’s dad, photo exhibit entitled "Paris, Women & Bicycles."  Get the details, here.

Monday – Meetings continue for the L.A. County Bike Plan.  Next up, Hacienda Heights.

Monday – The first of the hearings for the Wilshire Bus Rapid Transit Project in Westwood Presbyterian Church at 6:00 P.M.  Dana Gabbard wrote an incredibly detailed post on the history of the project thus far, that can be read, here.

Wednesday – The City Council Transportation Committee meets to discuss, amongst other things, a series of speed limit increases.  More on the increases later today.  The meeting begins at 2:00 P.M. at City Hall.  If the meeting runs late, I wonder what Council Man Tom LaBonge will do, because…

Wednesday –  …Wednesday is also the popular "Positively 4th Street" ride sponsored by LaBonge’s office.  If you ever want to see a City Council Member cork an intersection, here’s your chance.  This year’s ride will be something of a victory because the transition of 4th Street to a Bike Boulevard has begun with the installation of Sharrows.  To get more details on the ride, visit www.tomlabonge.com.  Also, there’s a meeting of LACBC’s 4sbb Committee the next day.

Thursday – It’s the Metro Board Meeting at 9:30 in the Board Room.  Full preview tomorrow.

Friday – It’s the LAPD/Critical Mass Ride.  I’ll be there with Gunpowder and the Charlie Brown shirt.  If you’ve got two wheels and any curiosity, met at Wilshire/Western Red Line stop at 7:00 for a 7:30 ride start.  More on this ride on Wednesday.

Sunday – Sunday marks the end of an environmentalist institution in Los Angeles.  The historic Eco-Home in Los Feliz will hold its last public tour.  I’ve done some work for Eco-Home so I’ve avoided talking about them here, but it’s the end of an era.  After 22 years.  If you’re interested in learning practical ways to green your lifestyle and/or start your own urban garden, then make certain to take this two and a half hour tour this weekend.  For more information, check out our calendar section, or http://ecohome.org.
