Between the City Council Transportation Committee canceling its meeting and government preparing for the holiday weekend by not doing much of anything on Friday, we have a pretty short week in events. That’s o.k., the Metro Board meeting is going to be long enough to pick up the slack.

Tuesday – Once a month, the Southern California Association of Governments hosts “Toolbox Tuesday” to help train transportation professionals and students in something outside their specialty. This week’s topic is, “TDM Ordinances & Implementation – Getting Transportation Demand Management Working.” For more information, click here.

Tuesday – On Tuesday evening the Transit Coalition hosts their monthly meeting with Metro Rail Service Development Manager Bruce Shelbourne at Phillipe’s the Original by Union Station. When I asked Bart Reed to describe Shelbourne, he responded, “Bruce is the guy who determines what runs and how and why.” Sounds important. Tuesday – The Bresee Foundation hosts its 6th Annual Youth Film Series. This year’s topic is “Unhealthy L.A.,” an examination of whether or not the City of Angels is an unhealthy place to raise children. Tuesday – Sustainable Streets and Grand Masters Cycling will be hosting an all-day fundraiser and raffle at the Library Alehouse in Santa Monica. Get all the details, here.

Thursday – It’s the monthly meeting of the Metro Board of Directors. Expect a long one, with the 2012 budget, and routing decisions for both the Crenshaw Line and Wilshire Bus-Only Lanes. I predict a lot of public comment. When the full agenda is posted, we’ll have a preview of the meeting. The meeting starts at 9:30 in the Metro Board Room. Incidentally, the Los Angeles City Council hasn’t scheduled a hearing on the Bus Only Lanes, meaning that the Metro Board will be taking the lead in setting the route.

Friday – It’s the last Friday of the month, and that means its time for Critical Mass. Meet at 7:00 at Wilshire/Westerm to take the streets for cyclists. Yes, the LAPD are still along for the ride.
