A Streetsblog Favorite, ArtCycle, Reclaims Streets in East Hollywood Tomorrow

Since Streetsblog didn’t do a “Week In Livable Streets Events” this week, we wanted to highlight one of our favorite yearly events: ArtCycle.

Before CicLAvia unlocked miles of city streets, ArtCycle was East Hollywood’s local open streets party. In 2009, Streetfilms’ founder Clarence Eckerson happened to be in town for the inaugural ArtCycle and was so impressed with the event he made this Streetfilm.

But every year the event has changed a little bit. The first year it was a block party in the old Hel-Mel Bike District that included guided bike rides to Hollywood and East Hollywood art galleries. Last year, it was more of a street party with an art theme as shown in the video below by David Bell.

This year, ArtCycle will be held on a residential street and serve as a public block party in East Hollywood. There will be bands, public art, guided bike rides, food trucks and more. You can read all about the event at their website, or just head over to Madison and Santa Monica Boulevard sometime after 1:30.
